Deirdre Geraghty, a Dublin-born artist now based in the breath taking landscapes of Kerry, has always had an unshakable passion for art. Her creative journey has been deeply influenced by the places she has called home, from the sun-drenched horizons of Kenya, where she spent her early years, to the rich Mediterranean light that illuminated much of her twenties and thirties. Each environment has left its imprint on her work, shaping a visual language that is vibrant, evocative, and deeply personal.
Returning to Ireland after living abroad, Deirdre experienced significant early success with a sell-out solo exhibition in Dublin in 2007. However, it was in 2018, after settling in Ballinskelligs, Kerry, that she fully embraced her role as a full-time artist, shifting her focus towards abstract compositions rendered in acrylics. Here, amid the untamed beauty of the Iveragh Peninsula, her art has taken on a new depth, capturing the essence of her surroundings in a way that feels both intuitive and immersive.
In recent years, Deirdre has participated in numerous group exhibitions and art events across Ireland and europe. Most recently as part of The Irish Palette collective, with a showcase at The Engine Room Gallery in Belfast, Gra Gallery Naas, the Market Gallery, Cork. Looking ahead, she is set to feature in several upcoming exhibitions, further cementing her place within Ireland’s contemporary art scene.
Her latest body of work, LANDSPEAK, is a powerful exploration of landscape, memory, and identity. Inspired by the rugged terrain and ever-changing light of southwest Kerry, this ongoing series reflects a profound connection to Ireland’s rich history, folklore, and natural splendour. “How could I not be inspired living in one of the most beautiful parts of the world?” she muses.
For Deirdre, Kerry has become more than just a place—it is a source of artistic and personal resonance. “Since moving here full-time, I feel a deeper connection to being Irish—our history, legends, land, and what that truly means to me. I feel the energy of the landscape, our stories, our language, and our heritage. This series seeks to capture the ethereal beauty and spirit of the Iveragh Peninsula.”
With her work gracing private collections across Ireland, the UK, Cyprus, Spain, France, China, Australia, and the UAE, Deirdre Geraghty’s art speaks a universal language—one that is deeply rooted in place yet transcends borders. Through her abstract interpretations of Kerry’s mystical terrain, she invites us to see the land not just as a physical space, but as a living, breathing entity—one that holds memory, meaning, and an enduring sense of belonging.
